HOW THE WEE
COWS ARE BORN...
Each and every little cow is lovingly made by hand by Chris
Pellow.
She starts off with hollow tubes of polymer clay to which
the legs are attached. The hairy structure of the legs is created and
improves a strong bond with the body.
Next the face, nose and ears are stuck to the body.
Those are all the "brown" clay parts done.
She then proceeds to kneed the clay for the hoofs and horns
and places them into the right position. Off to do the first
curing.
By now.. the cowsies have already some of their unique
characteristic traits...
It is time for the more intricate work... : the hairdo
!
With a tool called an extruder, strands of clay are extruded
and placed on the wee ones, some in batches of 3 strands, others strand
by strand. It is a time consuming little process but one that really
brings out the lovely sweet expression of the wee cows.

After the coiffing, the wee ones return to the oven to be cured
and make one strong bond.
And you thought this was the end ? no.. not quite.
Now high quality artist oil paint is applied to the hairs
to give them that reddish Highland glow.
After a drying period, a protective varnish is applied.
Lastly, all the wee cows receive a health check and if they
are considered fit enough to go on lengthy travels, they are lovingly kissed
goodbye by the rest of the bunch, wrapped in their travel suits (bubbly stuff)
and packed with a hand made tam and blanket.
